Let's overcome barriers

have you ever thought about barriers?

they are everywhere:

  • national barriers: I understand that for historical reasons there are nations. But I do not want that to be a reason for not helping each other when coming from different countries. And I do not accept that legal systems have to be so complicated and different. Come on: we are all humans!
  • cultural barriers: people do not understand each other because they think they are so much different from each other. I respect each culture. If I do not understand, I want to learn! If I understand everything, I am dead: That's my definition of my personal death: To have understood everything. That means for me, that many people are already dead; they are zombies.
  • language barriers: we are used to different languages. So, we do not understand when talking. But there are other options: love and music, just to give examples. These are common 'languages'
  • organisational barriers: I am now more than 50 years on this earth and I do not understand why there are so many templates, formulas, restrictions, procedures, organisations, processes without any freedom to follow. For me this is the opposite of dynamics.
  • brain barriers: I understand that each individual is unique. And I understand that we all have our limits to think and understand. But that is no reason to fight against each other!
  • technology barriers: the best example i 'love' is roaming. Why should I pay much more if we just crossed a national border? Try to explain that to children. They would not understand. And they are right!

The next evolution of mankind is to understand that barriers and borders are tools and methods to prohibit development, to neglect human rights, to hinder innovation.
So, let's help together to overcome this!

Lost in social media?

Are you are power networker using all upcoming apps and services as beta user trying to find out if it will be useful to you? Why should you do that? I don't know, but I can tell you why I am doing exactly this!

I am using several services to get information, to follow people, to get into contact with others. The main reason for me is curiosity. So, I really liked by foursquare badge I got when visiting the computer history museum in Mountain View, California the other day.

But there is another reason why I am doing this. I believe that transparency because of using many services and link them together will lead to better understanding of each other and to a better world in a long run.

The third reason why I am using many apps and services is because I try with my startups to come up with something new. This means I have to know what is already there.

So, I am using many apps and services since many months. Because I am using keepass for all of my passwords I know that I am registered at about 2800 sites. And thanks to Facebook I found out that over time I have connected 450 apps to my facebook account. Because there is a trend to interconnect apps and services there are more and more APIs and mashups. To get an impression you should look at ProgrammableWeb.

So, you and many others out there are helping me to not get lost in social media. You give feedback whenever something went wrong. Thx for sharing!

What is Innovation?

The question seems clear, the answer is not.

Is Innovation a extrapolation of what we already know? Something that is better, higher, lower, reduced or enriched?

Is Innovation something I can learn?

Who understands that an Innovation is an Innovation?

When everybody understands the Innovation, can you still call it an Innovation?

If only the Innovator understands his / her Innovation, what then?

What is the difference between Innovation, Invention, Creation?

xScited in silicon valley

+Josef Schodl and I had a fantastic first week in silicon valley. We have an appartment in sunnyvale thanks to everbill, meetings and discussions with interesting people. With skype our team in austria and buenos aires is connected working in a 24 hour mode hard to get xScited out of the box. We learned from blackbox and the launch event how to focus more on xScited's value proposition, how to work on an awesome user experience, how to design our entry strategy. We will incorporate soon here in US to have our headquarter here. This will be the second of my startups to go to US after wappwolf with the iBeam service. So, stay tuned and spread the word!

Silicon Valley

I have been in Silicon Valley last week and will stay another week. I am with xScited, a platform for matching resources to demands of research projects. xScited is part of the Go Silicon Valley program of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce in Los Angeles. We are based in Plug and Play Tech Center in Sunnyvale
In the first week we had a course on several topics: how to pitch, pitching ourselves, juridical topics, some discussions how the venture capital market is functioning, etc. If you are new, this is really Silicon Valley in a nutshell, if you are experienced then this is already clear to you.
One major activity is networking. It is really great to get into contact with many people very easy, they are used to give you hints and help you on your way.
I also did some preparation before i was coming to Silicon Valley. I let my networks know that i am here. So, I met a guy I never met before. we were only linked at linkedIn. And he brought another guy with him. Really great.
Next week we will have additional meetings.
How do we know from such meetings? We check out eventbrite, plancast and meetup. There are also apps available, by the way. And of course Michael Lipper from Wappwolf, who is already here since beginning of September has already established excellent contacts including contacts to Mozilla, German American Business Association and others.
When Josef Schodl of xScited is coming next week he will take over and become part of our network, too.
